Do you physically walk with God?

Lately, I've been prioritizing my health by consistently walking every day. I'm not up to 10,000 steps or anything ambitious like that, but I have been getting my feet moving.

This new practice takes time away from my normal routine, so I had to find a way to combine my walking with other daily activities that are important to me.

For years, I've heard that people walk and pray, and I've usually said, "That's not for me. I need to remove all distractions. I need to write out my prayers."

Now, I think I'm a new Prayer Walking convert.

Praying while walking was not hard at all. In fact, because I was pouring out my heart to God aloud but quietly, I remained focused. To be honest, I probably looked like Hannah with my lips moving, but I didn't care what anyone else thought!

I praised God, humbled myself before Him, confessed my sins, and just talked to Him about concerns that came to mind. Then, instinctively, I started specifically praying for the people living in the homes that lined my path.

When I walked by one home, I saw the husband in the garage. He's an older gentleman, and I don't know him or his wife. I only know their last name. I don't know their faith or their position in Christ, yet I felt compelled to pray for their salvation.

The next morning, I learned that the woman passed away in the middle of the night.

I am so grateful that I was listening to God that afternoon. On my walks, I continue to pray for their family and the grief that they feel right now. I pray that they are walking with Jesus just as I was the day that their loved one passed away. And I pray that she is in Heaven with her Father right now.

Walking and praying reminds me of the two men on the road to Emmaus after Jesus' resurrection. You can read the whole story in Luke 24:13-35. As a summary, the two men were walking seven miles from Jerusalem to Emmaus. Jesus caught up with them.

'While they were talking and discussing together, Jesus himself drew near and went with them. '
Luke 24:15 (emphasis mine)

He reviewed Scripture that pointed to Himself, but they still couldn't see the truth that Jesus was the Messiah until He blessed and broke bread in front of them.

After Jesus left them,

They said to each other, “Did not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us on the road, while he opened to us the Scriptures?”
Luke 24:32 (emphasis mine)

The two men had the opportunity to walk and talk with Jesus. He drew near to them, and His words (Scripture) set their hearts on fire for Him, for the Truth. God gives us that same opportunity every single day.

Reader Have you ever Prayer Walked? If not, would you try it today? I'd love to hear about your experience. Drop me a reply and let me know how it went for you. This week, I pray that through prayer and the Bible, our hearts will burn for Jesus.

Blessings,

As we enter this season of giving, what do you give someone who has everything? We typically think about this question in the context of well-off parents or grandparents who don't need one more material thing. But I challenge you today to think about the question in the context of God. What do you give Someone who has everything? God literally owns everything. He gave us everything that we have—life, material items, talents, spiritual gifts, even people. When someone gives me a gift, I am...

Two weeks ago, I asked, Which Bible verse are you praying today? Many thanks to everyone in our Pray God's Way family who responded. I promised that I'd share the list of verses that our community is praying. I encourage you to meditate on each verse, ask the Holy Spirit to show you what God wants you to know about the verse and how to apply it to your life. You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.Isaiah 26:3 Keep yourselves in the love of God,...

This has been quite a week. It's heavy. I feel like there has been a tectonic cultural shift in our world, and I'm still trying to catch my breath. The world literally shook the day Charlie Kirk was assassinated. (There was an earthquake in Utah on Wednesday, September 10th a couple of hours after his death was confirmed.) If you're not familiar with Charlie Kirk, you can check out his videos via the Turning Point USA, Turning Point USA Faith, and Charlie Kirk Show websites. Please listen to...
