As we enter the season of giving . . .

As we enter this season of giving, what do you give someone who has everything?

We typically think about this question in the context of well-off parents or grandparents who don't need one more material thing.

But I challenge you today to think about the question in the context of God.

What do you give Someone who has everything?

God literally owns everything.

He gave us everything that we have—life, material items, talents, spiritual gifts, even people.

When someone gives me a gift, I am grateful and want to thank the giver with a gift of equal or greater value.

Yet, as I write this, I feel compelled to sing The Little Drummer Boy.

I have no gifts to bring. I don't even know how to play a drum!

The Bible tells us what God wants:

Your heart

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.
Matthew 22:37

Your time

So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.
1 John 4:16

and Your obedience

Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected.
1 John 2:4-5

God wants a relationship with you. He wants you to know Him.

See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
1 John 3:1

LET'S PRAY

Heavenly Father,

You have given me life, salvation, family, friends, and everything I own.

I am overwhelmed with gratitude.

But I have no gifts that are fit for the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

So I will give you my heart.

I will abide in Your Word and pray.

I will learn Your commandments, do my best to follow them, and confess and repent when I fail.

You are my Father, and I am Your child.

I can do nothing and want to do nothing without You.

In Your Son's, my Savior's, Name, Amen

Reader, If you have not given your heart to Jesus yet, please consider praying Romans 10:9 below. If you have any questions, please reply so I can help.

During the month of December, let's focus on abiding in and obeying God together. Please see my invitation below, and let's enjoy this Advent season together!

AN INVITATION

I love to read the Book of Luke in December. I read one chapter each day, and by Christmas Eve, I've read the whole book (24 chapters): From Jesus' birth through His Resurrection and Ascension.

If you'd like to join me, click on the Yes option as your answer (to the poll) below. You're only committing to reading (independently) one chapter a day and, possibly, receiving a mid-week email or two.

Staying in the Word during this busy time of year puts everything from the world into perspective. I'd love for you to join me!

Blessings,

Two weeks ago, I asked, Which Bible verse are you praying today? Many thanks to everyone in our Pray God's Way family who responded. I promised that I'd share the list of verses that our community is praying. I encourage you to meditate on each verse, ask the Holy Spirit to show you what God wants you to know about the verse and how to apply it to your life. You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.Isaiah 26:3 Keep yourselves in the love of God,...

This has been quite a week. It's heavy. I feel like there has been a tectonic cultural shift in our world, and I'm still trying to catch my breath. The world literally shook the day Charlie Kirk was assassinated. (There was an earthquake in Utah on Wednesday, September 10th a couple of hours after his death was confirmed.) If you're not familiar with Charlie Kirk, you can check out his videos via the Turning Point USA, Turning Point USA Faith, and Charlie Kirk Show websites. Please listen to...

Since the late 19th century, the first Monday in September has been set aside to honor the American worker via the observance of Labor Day. There are lots of verses in the Bible about labor. Some reference laboring over the earth for food. Some reference a mother's labor giving birth to her child. I recently read a paragraph from a Charles Spurgeon sermon that put the word labor into a new Biblical context for me. When God makes someone into a Christian, the three persons of the Trinity...
